Sydney:: Saturday 31 Dec - Monday 2 January
So, new country warrants another early start - we're at the airport for 7am. Flight went very well, actually, I was rather impressed with Air New Zealand and I watched Limitless, which was OK, but pleased I didn't pay to see it at the cinema.. but Bradley Cooper is still HOT.
Got to Virginia's, and went into the CBD for some lunch and to get our bearings. We ran a lot of errands and then came back in preparation for the party we were going to.
The apartment party was excellent and began with the fireworks at 9am over the harbour - immense to be honest, this was when we realised what an amazing view of the bridge we had and how lucky the host, Alana, was to live in such a brilliant location for new years eve parties! Turns out that Virginia is friends with one of my friends, Emma, who emigrated out here with her boyfriend - she was also at the party, which was a shock, but ace!! Everyone made an effort with their clothes and looked very dapper, so I'm pleased I took a dress with me!!
The midnight fireworks were absolutely sensational (see how I'm coming up with new adjectives all of the time?!). I have some brilliant photos of those. Then we had sparklers, ate nice food and danced the night away to spice girls. The wine flowed the entire evening and to be honest, it was one of the better new years I've had.. fantastic times.
Got up on new years day in a pretty amazing mood and no hangover (bonus). I went out today for a lovely adventure on my own to the CBD to meet up with Emily for lunch. It was fantastic to see her and it was great to have lunch with both the opera house and the bridge in view.. the weather was also amazing. We walked through the botanical gardens, went for a glass of wine and then said our goodbyes.
The adventure really began then because I got completely lost and ended up on Darling Harbour, which was actually no where near where I wanted to be, but it worked beautifully because I ended up going on an excellent walk around the harbour, to The Rocks.. and got some excellent views of the bridge as well as some quiet time to just do nothing, which is always nice to do. A starbucks later, and I met up with Virginia and Vicky off the ferry and went to Circular Point for a vino. Takeout pizza and a rental film finished the night off nicely.
Monday was a goodbye day for Virginia who has flown to England for a holiday. We went to The Rocks and booked my Christmas pressent from Ma, Pa and Jess - the Bridge Climb - so, I will be doing that on my return to the city.
We've done some lovely walks and today was no exception, getting to the point where we could get a picture of both the Opera House and Bridge (something which I just hadn't been able to do before... VERY pleased with that pic (smug face). We sat in the gardens and read the old book.. Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, before going back to the house for a fridge party and watching The Proposal, which wasn't bad actually.
